Google Tag Manager Integration with Joomag

There’s power in data. And leveraging it properly can work wonders for your business.

Analyze enough and you’ll eventually pull valuable insights from it. That’s important because your website (regardless of how awesome it is) won’t get very far if you don’t know how people are interacting with it. Data analysis helps businesses interpret information in meaningful ways, predict consumer trends and behavior, boost productivity, and drive effective decision making.

Without the right data, you’ll blow through your marketing budget and leave your business with little (or nothing) to work with after.

But don’t fret. That’s why tags exist!

Tags are snippets of data-collecting code embedded in web pages, mobile apps, and other pieces of content. Marketers love ‘em because they’re useful for collecting important information, like how visitors are interacting with their content. Working with tags can get a little complicated, but innovative companies like Google are streamlining the process and making it accessible for everyone. Take Google Tag Manager (GTM), for example. In this article, we’ll explain what GTM is and how you can integrate it with Joomag in five easy steps.

What is Google Tag Manager?

Google Tag Manager is Google’s nifty — and free — software tool that lets users install different types of code (or tags) to their websites. What’s neat about GTM is that anyone can use it. Those tedious code-editing tasks usually reserved for your development team? Share the load and do it yourself! GTM lets anyone add and update their own tags – including JavaScript code snippets for tracking conversions – so your engineers can focus on the more important stuff. Examples of tags include:

  • Google Analytics tracking codes

  • Google Analytics event codes

  • Google Adwords Remarketing Tags

  • Google Adwords Conversion Tags

  • Facebook Pixel codes

  • Custom HTML/Javascript codes

5 benefits of using GTM

1. It’s easy

Anyone can update and edit new tags with GTM. It’s fast, easy, and doesn’t require you to hardcode several tags on one website. Just place a single GTM code on any webpage and use it to add or manage tags throughout your entire site.

2. It future-proofs your content

Future tag modifications and upgrades can be applied through GTM’s single, easy-to-use interface.

3. It has version control

You can rollback to a previous version of your tag setup if you’re unhappy with the current one. That’s because GTM archives every change you publish.

4. It debugs

Test your updates. GTM sports a built-in debugger that checks if your tags are working properly.

5. It includes built-in tags

With built-in tags for classic analytics, GTM lets marketers add and edit their own tags without the help of more experienced developers.

How does GTM work?

Google Tag Manager has three main components:

1. Tags: the pieces of code

“Tags are segments of code provided by analytics, marketing, and support vendors to help you integrate their products into your websites,” says Google. With GTM, adding tags directly to your content isn’t necessary anymore. Users can set and publish them from GTM’s interface instead.

2. Triggers: the conditions needed for tags to activate

Triggers tell GTM when or how to fire a tag. When a tag hears the right trigger (configured by the user), it activates. Tags activate when certain events happen, like when a video is clicked on.

3. Variables: extra information needed for tags and triggers to work

Variables refer to any supplementary information GTM might need for a particular tag to fire. They’re like digital compartments that store certain values. Both tags and triggers can refer to variables and retrieve values stored in them.

GTM changed the game. But if you still haven’t installed it yet, here’s how.
